This is number 9, yes, number nine as in numerology or नौवाँ as one may call. This was my birthday detail as above. I was the very first son born in my family, after 8 generations, meaning I was born first male child in the ninth generation. My father, grand father, and great grand father since earlier last eight generations were all adopted. The very earliest great grand father we know of was treasurer of Lord Bahadur Shah Zafar, the last Mughal Emperor in India.
I lived in old Delhi, central part of Delhi, capital of India, and my birth was celebrated as a grand festival by my family. It was like the generations old curse was now over, and thus, everyone was super excited. My grand mother Late Smt. Birmo Devi was a child widow, who unfortunately was not even married to my grand father. She got engaged, and before wedding, my grand father lost his life in a road accident. My grand mother chose to live a widowed life, rather than marrying someone. She devoted her life to serve God as there was no other purpose in her life. Later, she adopted her cousin’s eldest son (my father).
I went to a kindergarten school (the very first school), which was run by my neighbor called as (behanji) or elder sister (in English). She had a great respect in our neighborhood as almost all in our area had attended or were sending their children for the first experience of schooling. We were asked to purchase a list of components like (Takhti, Kalam, charcoal ink and Multani soil mixture) Takhti is a wooden hand held platform to be used as a notebook, wooden pen / Kalam, ink to write and Multani soil mixed in water to be used to rub and rewrite in case of errors). After the class at home, we need to show our class work to parents and paint the Takhti with multani mitti – water solution and put it to dry. This makes our so called notebook ready for next day. I was sort of most loved by all teachers and students as they distribute rice flakes, roasted nuts and sweetened rice flakes everyday to all. I was given slight extra and these little extras were making me feel special.
